“What is truth?" I believe this same question that Pontus Pilate posed to our Lord Jesus Christ is ringing out loud and clear today. The sad fact is that our church pews and pulpits are being filled by those who are echoing this pitiful cry. Here are five reasons why I believe this has happened?
The cry “what is truth?” is being heard around the world because:
1. The Holy Scriptures have lost their place in the minds of many as our only inerrant source of truth. There is therefore, no final authority. ”The truth” becomes a decision of the majority or the ruling of those who make the loudest noise or those who present the most convincing argument.
Psalms 119:151 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
2. The Holy Scriptures have been corrupted and perverted! Some claim that any translation, any interpretation, any book with “Bible” on the cover is good enough. This worldly philosophy has done nothing but create confusion.
1Co 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
God has given us His inspired Word in the English language; it is called the King James Authorized Version. This did not have to be proven to me, nor by the grace of God can it be disproven. God himself sealed this truth in my heart and soul when I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.
The cry of “what is truth” resounds throughout the church world because:
3. The Holy Scriptures are no longer preached with the power and anointing of the Holy Ghost of God by the vast majority of modern day pastors and preachers! They are not delivering God's message to His children; they are using “smooth sayings” to woo the multitudes.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
4. The Holy Scriptures are rejected by the modern day believer. They would rather have their “ears tickled,” than to hear what God really has to say.
2Ti 4:2-3 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
5. The Holy Scriptures are being used as a text book in order to gain “vast spiritual knowledge,” rather than what they were intended to be, a God-given guide of truth for living a righteous, godly life in this wicked world.
Psalms 119:104-105 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. (105) NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Oh how we as believers need to hold on to the truth of God's Word with all our heart and soul and not let it go!
“What is the truth?”
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Sincerely,
Marlin Prentice
