How could a disastrous first date turn out to be the beginnings of a great relationship? We found out that a few of the Youth Conference speakers didn't exactly start out as Prince Charming sweeping his enamored princess off of her feet. We thought we would fill you in on some of the humorous and eccentric first dates of those youth speakers that you love.
Brother and Mrs. Chris Tefft met at First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. When they first met, Bro. Tefft had just left the Army and was still in the habit of wearing his Army Issued black-horned-rimmed glasses. (He still wears those on occasion, but only as Reverend Bravo!) Mrs. Tefft saw past those hideous glasses and agreed to have a date with him. For their first date, they planned to go with some friends to celebrate her birthday. The only snag was that he didn't show when it was time to leave. In spite of his tardiness, the Teffts hit it off well and dated for only seven months before marrying. They have been married for twenty-one years.
Brother Bob Hooker met his wife at Memphis State University. She turned him down twice when he asked for a date, and it wasn't until he finally looked up her phone number in the phone book to call and ask her to go to a college ball game with him that she finally accepted his offer. Brother Hooker was unsaved at the time, but God was working in his life. After the ball game, he asked Mrs. Hooker if she was a Christian. No one had ever asked her that before. They dated for two years and have been married for thirty years.
Bro. and Mrs. Freddie DeAnda met at Hyles-Anderson College. Their first date was during a chapel service at Hyles-Anderson College. Mrs. DeAnda was so nervous during her first date that her knee would not stop shaking, and she tried to hide it from Bro. DeAnda for fear of embarrassment. They dated for three years and one month before being married and have been married now for eight years.
Bro. and Mrs. Charlie Clark are at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Atco, New Jersey where he serves as the youth pastor. For their first date they went out to eat and also went bowling. As they were driving, Mrs. Clark's nose began to run. Bro. Clark pulled the car over and got a t-shirt out of his trunk for Mrs. Clark to blow her nose in. She refused the t-shirt in disgust but they dated for the next two years and have been married for nineteen years.
