An Unlikely Leader By: FBC Ministries As Jose Chavez rushed down Lakeshore Drive to his job on the north side of Chicago, he had a bad feeling. It had already been a bad week for him. The Saturday before, he had been tossed in jail in Calumet City, Illinois, for fighting with his neighbor.

Why Do Spiritual Teenagers Stumble at the Door of Spiritual Adulthood By: FBC Ministries The Bible doesn't say a lot about you spending your time fretting or worrying what the will of God is; the Bible says you should be very concerned about understanding the will of God. Not only should you not worry about finding the will of God, but it's your job to prove that what you are doing is the will of God.

The Big Deal with Stem Cells By: FBC Ministries Stem cells can be found in humans of all ages; however, the stem cells that are debated so hotly are the stem cells found in unborn and undeveloped babies.

U. S. Army - U.S. Navy - U.S. Grant By: FBC Ministries Although you know the eighteenth President of the United States as Ulysses S. Grant, this was not really his true name. In fact, the story behind his name is quite interesting.

The Sunday Bus By: FBC Ministries As a six-year-old boy I was reached by the bus ministry of First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. Also, while I attended Hyles-Anderson College I served on a bus route on the North side of Chicago in our church's bus ministry. Much of my life has involved the bus ministry in some fashion.

The Bus Ministry By: FBC Ministries The educational philosophy of Hyles- Anderson College is similar to the philosophy of the United States Army. That philosophy is BE-KNOW-DO. Be what you are supposed to be, know what you are supposed to know, and do what you are supposed to do. Like all good philosophies of life, it has its roots in Biblical truth. Hyles-Anderson College is a BE-KNOW- DO college. Between the classroom, the chapel, and the church, our students are trained to be, know, and do. The bus ministry is the epitome of this philosophy.

First Date Disaster By: FBC Ministries How could a disastrous first date turn out to be the beginnings of a great relationship? We found out that a few of the Youth Conference speakers didn't exactly start out as Prince Charming sweeping his enamored princess off of her feet. We thought we would fill you in on some of the humorous and eccentric first dates of those youth speakers that you love.

The Greatest Story Ever Told By: FBC Ministries “What a Series!” read the headline on Monday, November 3, 1975 after the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Boston Red Sox in the seventh game of the World Series with a series score of 4-3. For the first time in 35 years, the Cincinnati Reds were baseball's World Champions. Many people remember Carlton Fisk's legendary game-winning homer in the bottom of the twelfth of Game 6, but he never would have had that opportunity if it were not for Bernie Carbo. In the eighth inning with two outs and two strikes, Carbo pinch-hit a 3-run homer that tied the score at 6-6. Carbo's pinch homer was his second of the Series, tying a Series record.

FOREVER THANKFUL! By: Marlin Prentice Do you remember the moment that God first spoke to your heart and convicted you of your sin? Well, I will never forget the night the Lord opened my eyes to who and what I really was.

Six Ways to Deal with Peer Pressure By: FBC Ministries We've all heard about it, been warned about it, been preached to about it, but how do we deal with it. A pressure is a force that is placed upon us by our friends to behave a certain way. Everyone must face this pressure no matter what age we are. Adults sometimes call it politics. Peer pressure is a very strong force because we naturally want to please those whom we care about the most.

Satanic Attack By: FBC Ministries Mark 16:17-18 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” These words did not mean much to me until my family and I surrendered to go to the mission field in 1990 while I was attending Hyles-Anderson College, but they began to mean more as our family started on the adventure of following God's will.

My Trust is Broken By: FBC Ministries I grew up in the concrete jungle of Chicago with all of the stereotypical challenges of life in the big city. Of course, there were many great things about growing up in the city, but also there were fights, loud music, gangs, and trouble that was a normal way of life. Because there were many dangers growing up in the city, it seemed as though I was always looking over my shoulder for any problems that could arise. It is very easy to become distrustful when you are from a big city.

The Heimlich Maneuver By: FBC Ministries Seconds seemed to last an eternity as I held his little body in my arms and watched as he turned blue. My nephew was choking, and I didn't know what to do. I was just a teenager, and this was one of my first experiences with babysitting. I tried slapping him on the back between his shoulder blades, I tried turning him upside down, and I even tried to give him water to drink. All of my efforts were very wrong and could have caused further damage.

Give the Gift of Memories By: FBC Ministries Of all the Christmas gifts I've ever received, one memory is treasured above all others. I was thirteen years old, and my older brother proudly presented me with his gift. It was a large, heavy, beautifully wrapped box. I eagerly tore into it, only to find another, and inside that box was another, and another. After opening about 15 boxes, one inside of another, I arrived at the next obstacle to my gift.

What Is Truth? By: Marlin Prentice “What is truth?" I believe this same question that Pontus Pilate posed to our Lord Jesus Christ is ringing out loud and clear today. The sad fact is that our church pews and pulpits are being filled by those who are echoing this pitiful cry.

12 Tips for Christian Dating By: FBC Ministries The big question is, “How do you find the right one?” How does a lady know for sure that she is doing the right thing in dating a particular young man? Who you spend the rest of your life with is a huge decision. Make the wrong decision, and you may live the rest of your life in misery-lonely, hurt, or even alone.

Reality “Life” By: FBC Ministries Most of us tend to deal with the stressful things of our lives by ignoring them. The Bible tells us in James 1:23 & 24, “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.”

Six Tips for Proper Manners By: FBC Ministries Are you trying to impress that special someone? Good manners open doors that are closed to brawn, beauty, and brains. Are your table manners becoming of a Christian teenager? A Christian teenager should know how to appropriately function at a dinner event. Few things will impress your date more than sitting with a true gentleman or lady who knows how to be appropriate at meal time. Disregarding proper table manners will most likely ensure you will be refused a second date with a teen who has manners that are “ten times better.”

How to Get the Job Done By: FBC Ministries The Bible says, “Every man at his best state is altogether vanity.” OUCH!! That hurts! I always felt that if I gave God my very best, He would be satisfied. This Bible verse tells me differently.
